  PARENTS

Parent Meetings & Involvement - Such meetings are arranged on a see need, feel need basis by the Sensei.  The meetings are informal with the purpose of keeping you in the picture and getting feedback from you as to effectiveness of the program.  To help make karate an enjoyable experience for your child, the volunteer instructors need your involvement.  Organizing, transporting and supervising children at the various clinics, tournaments and outings is a huge task; a task the instructors cannot undertake without your participation.  Please consider joining us in this portion of the program - the children will thank you.

Your Child's Progress - Formal examinations are held several times per year.  The children are invited to attend.  As you can appreciate, children develop skills at different rates.  As such only those who, in the instructors opinion, have developed sufficient skill are promoted.  Those completing the "kyu" requirements will be promoted to the next level (see  Testing).  Your child would be presented a certificate and (where appropriate) a new colored belt.  There is a cost for this formal evaluation for successful candidates (see Testing).

How will I know how my child is doing? - Notification of forthcoming assessment dates and times are mentioned during the regular class sessions.  You are invited to view the examination process and discuss its outcome with the examiner.

Dropping off and picking up your child - Your child is a precious gift.  In the best interests of your child's health and safety, and to promote effective communication between the instructors and parents, please enter the facility, bringing your child directly to or from the training area.  We encourage parents to remain and view their child's training.

  CANCELLATIONS

CONTACTS ~ Classes ~ Parents ~ Cancellations ~ Costs ~ Testing ~ Etiquette
Opening
~ Closing ~ SHOWA ~ Application Form ~ TOP of PAGE

Please take a moment to ensure an UNSCHEDULED cancellation has not occurred.  In particular, parents must ensure your child has adequate supervision prior to leaving the facility by dropping into the training area, rather than simply dropping them off "at the door".

Emergencies and foul weather may cause cancellations.  Please take note,
if SCHOOL is cancelled, then KARATE is cancelled.

Because Instructors & students participate at other events (such as provincial, regional & national clinics, tournaments and meetings), regular class scheduling may be cancelled. These events are generally known well in advance and, where possible, written notice will be provided.

Junior KYU System
Any Karateka ("Karate Student") 15 years of age or younger is governed by an "11 Kyu" (levels) ranking system.  This gradual grading system allows students, as early as six years old, to be ranked every 6-to-8 months without arriving at the first Kyu too rapidly.
